Animal-only — and paradoxical. Kombucha showed hepatoprotective effects in rats and against oxidative damage in liver cells, yet in humans the opposite has been reported: multiple case reports of kombucha-associated liver injury. Animal protection has not translated to a proven human benefit and sits awkwardly beside the safety signal.
