What the evidence shows
The human evidence points against a meaningful effect. A meta-analysis of 7 RCTs (540 patients) found NO significant change in BMI or body fat, and a separate n=110 RCT found no body-composition difference. The one positive human trial, in fatty-liver patients, reported 1.5 kg lost versus 0.2 kg on placebo over 12 weeks — with a standard deviation larger than the effect itself.
